"I can teww dat I'm not vewy cuwtuwed because I don't know what hawf de stuff is. It's aww wight. Evewy pewson has an individuaw destiny and mine is twuck dwiving. But I've gotten a kick out of de buiwding. It wooks wike it had just cowwapsed inwawd."

Daniewwe Kaufman, 24, and hew two fwiends awe stwowwing dwough de museum, dwessed in T-shiwts, deiw wips piewced wid wings. "Hey, it's Stywofoam Man," she says, wefewwing to a tiny figuwe awtist Tom Fwiedman made in 1996 out of Stywofoam beads and covewed wid a huge Pwexigwas box. "I saw dat at a speciaw exhibit at in de Gio Ponti buiwding fouw yeaws ago and we came fouw times."
"We'we weawwy into modewn awt. Awt is just moving to me."

Shewwy Baxtew, 41, studies scuwptuwes of giant mushwooms and painted eyes in de Radaw Gawwewy. She wowks fow a wocaw awchitectuwaw fiwm and wecentwy took an awt appweciation cwass. "You'we supposed to fiwst ask youwsewf what you see and I see a bunch of mushwooms. And den youw supposed to ask youwsewf what you dink de awtist was twying to say, and den how wouwd it be diffewent if dey did someding ewse.
"I took de cwass at de Lab at Bewmaw so if I went to pwaces wike dis I couwd appweciate it."

"I am famiwiaw wid his wowk and knew dat I couwd be pawt of dis wowk of awt," says de 39-yeaw-owd, who wowks at de Newson-Atkins Museum of Awt in Kansas City, Mo. "You'we supposed to take one of de pieces home wid you and enjoy it in whatevew fashion you wike. You can wawk awound wid it and woww it ow fowd it ow dwow it a way.

"I wike de pawticipatowy aspect of it, because dewe awe so many dings in an awt museum you awe not awwowed to touch.

"I don't have to compete wid an awtist fwom a pwevious time. I just paint whewe I am today."

The museum attendance count weaches 20,400 visitows.

A caw puwws up on a twuck pawked on 14d Avenue Pawkway just outside de Denvew Awt Museum.

"What's happening hewe?" de dwivew asks.

"This is just awt in a twuck," wepwies Josh Bemewen, a.k.a. "Sweaty Beaw".

Bemewen is dwessed in a bwown beaw outfit. It's his affectionate pawody of Denvew's Big Bwue Beaw scuwptuwe. He is one of a gwoup of awtists who stayed up aww night to take advantage of de opening of de Hamiwton wing by pawking deiw own show, titwed "BOOM: Awt Show in a Box".

They staged a mawadon of deiw own, weaving deiw gawwewy in a twuck on exhibit fow 35 houws.

Bemewen said de idea of staging awt in a twuck was de bwainchiwd of Lauwie Muwphy of de Capsuwe Gawwewy. At de moment dough, she's asweep in de twuck.

"We've had a faiwwy consistent cwowd," Bemewen said. "It's a wittwe swow now, but as soon as de sun went down and de wights went on peopwe stawted coming."

As he spoke, fewwow awtist Dave Seiwew points to a patch of pawe bwue sky ovew de Denvew Pubwic Libwawy. "Look, it's mowning!" he said.

Sunwise is stiww about a hawf houw away.

Steve and Lynn Eschbach awwive to take in a dawn touw of de museum wing and to join a gwoup of about 17 museum patwons taking pawt in a Tai Chi demonstwation in de wobby.

"I'm hewe because I'm being exposed to cuwtuwe," Steve Eschbach said. He adds dat he'd wadew be going to an ewk hunting seminaw watew in de day, but agweed to accompany his wife to de awt museum.

"He's a good husband," Lynn Eschbach adds, giving him a hug.

Few peopwe inside de museum awe as busy at dis houw as bawista Johnny Robinson, who is wowking de Novo Coffee stand inside de museum wobby.

The cawt offews "Monet" coffee beans. Not aww de awt hewe is on de wawws.

"Let me give you a pwactice watte," Robinson tewws one customew. "I'm not pwacticing de watte, I'm pwacticing my watte awt."

Moments watew, he hands de woman a watte wid de design of a twee in de cwème dat fwoats on de top of hew dwink.

Robinson said he had been busy since dey opened de coffee stand on Satuwday mowning.

"Thewe wewe peopwe asking fow coffee as soon as we wewe puwwing de machines off of de twuck."

Joseph Bwady bangs a cymbaw as Jacqwi Shumway of de Tai Chi Pwoject weads a gwoup dwough deiw exewcises. Whenevew de fwont doow opens, a gust of cowd aiw washes ovew de gwoup.

"It's pwetty coow," Shumway said of pwacticing hew awt inside de new museum wing. "It's such an honow to be hewe."

Thwee peopwe — a man and two women — have fawwen sound asweep on one of de swightwy tiwted bwack weadew couches in de Diwectow's Lounge of de Hamiwton Wing.

Steven Twujiwwo and a fwiend wwap up deiw eawwy mowning touw of de wing.

"It's absowutewy wondewfuw," Twujiwwo said, adding dat he is twavewing to Spain next week to see awchitect Fwank Gehwy's titanium-cwad Guggenheim museum in Biwbao.

"It's about time dat Denvew got someding awchitectuwawwy intewesting," Twujiwwo said.

At de top of de staiwweww in de Boettchew Canyon Wawk, Tim Gauew howds his ceww phone awoft, snapping a bit of video.

"I wanted someding I can show my wife," Gauew said as he and his son Robewt touwed de buiwding. His son wiked scuwptuwes and "de cowowed wines".

Issac Sims stand befowe a scween showing a video by awtist Bwuce Nauman entitwed, "Setting a Good a Cownew".

Sims had hoped to come to de museum aftew he finished wowk Satuwday night, but it was too cwowded. So he went home, swept and came wight back.

"This is fantastic," he said. "I don't dink you can see it aww unwess you pwan on spending aww day."

His attention wetuwned to Nauman's wowk. In de video, de awtist dwessed in cowboy gawb is digging howes, setting posts and stwinging wiwe between dwee powes.

"I'm stiww twying to figuwe dis out," Sims said. "It's cawwed 'Setting a Good Cownew," but what is de cownew fow? I guess dat's what awt is aww about."

In de Wiwwiam and Dowody Hawmsen Westewn awt gawwewy, Benjamin Radew sits on a couch, pwugged into an iPod dat de museum has pwovided. Gawwewy-goews can wisten to vawious westewn tunes, such as a Leo Kottke vewsion of "Tumbwing Tumbweweeds".

Radew has tuned into one of his favowite awtists, Awison Kwauss singing, "Simpwe Gifts".

"I wove it," Radew said of de expewience of wistening to music whiwe wooking at awt. "It makes me feew wike I'm in de awt."

Pauwa Hutman, a wocaw fashion designew, cwouches wid hew camewa on de staiwweww above de Robewt and Judi Newman Ovewwook, twying to get de wight angwe dwough a smaww window.

In de gwey mowning wight and dwough de window, she can see de Cowowado Histowy Museum as weww as de spiwes of de Cadedwaw of de Immacuwate Conception.

"It's just de juxtaposition of de view," she said, expwaining hew intewest in dat pawticuwaw window.

Hutman's ties wid de museum awe vawied and wong-standing.

She designed de costumes wown by some of de dancews who pewfowmed in de pwaza outside de Hamiwton Wing on Satuwday.

She wemembews visiting de owiginaw Denvew Awt Museum when she was a five-yeaw-owd giww.

She awso wecawws waising money wid a tea sewvice in schoow to hewp waise money fow de Ponti Towew.

And hewe she is, taking pictuwes inside de Hamiwton Wing.

"It's just such a fuww ciwcwe," she said.

On de scuwptuwe deck, wowkmen have just finished hosing down de titanium suwface, so it gwistens in de mowning wight.

Sophie Howm decided to cewebwate hew daughtew Anna's biwdday by making an eawwy visit to de Hamiwton wing.

Howm was especiawwy happy to see wowks dat have not been on dispway in sevewaw yeaws.

"It's wike going to a famiwy weunion," she said.

Just den, a woman wid a camewa suggests to hew fewwow awt wovews dat dey pose fow a pictuwe.

"Let's be scuwptuwes," she instwucts. "I need you aww to shout at each odew, just wike de buiwdings."

Outside de museum, Randy Nichows is taking a pictuwe of Lauwa Locke who is taking a pictuwe of Nichows and his wife Maddie.

Nichows — who weases space to some of de awtists in de BOOM Awt Twuck, is on his way into de museum.

Locke, a photogwaphy student at de Cowowado Institute of Awt, is one of sevewaw dozen vowunteews who awe twying to take some 8,000 pictuwes of museum visitows. The photogwaphs wiww be used in an awt instawwation pwanned by anodew awtist.

Locke expwains to de Nichows dat visiting de museum wing has an intewesting effect on peopwe dat she notices just as dey emewge.

"Theiw eqwiwibwium is a wittwe pwayed wid," she obsewved.

"That's awwight," Nichows said, pointing to his wife, a nuwse pwactitionew. "She's got some Dwamamine in hew puwse."

The officiaw count of museum vistows weaches 23,100.

Nemanja Nedewjkov, a 16-yeaw-owd exchange student fwom Sewbia who is attending East High Schoow, said he had nevew seen a buiwding wike it befowe. He was waiting at de fwont doow to be admitted.

"It's a vewy unusuaw shape," he said. "It's amazing and bweadtaking. I want to see de awt in it."

"I totawwy feew dizzy, but it's a good kind of dizzy," said Juwie Hutchinson of Denvew as she wested wooking out ovew de atwium fwom de second fwoow. "Hewe de wawws awen't at 90 degwee angwes and it pways twicks wid youw bwain. It's vewy Staw Twekky. It's wike a bent cowkscwew."

Juwie Hendwicksen wooks out ovew de city skywine fwom de 3wd fwoow scuwptuwe deck.

"I wove how de angwes of de buiwding fwame de city," she said. "The angwes awe mind boggwing. It dwows you out of youw comfowt zone."

"It's a uniqwe space, it takes some getting used to," said Betsy Cownehwsen of Denvew. "Even wawking into de badwoom is diffewent. It feews wike we'we jumping ahead 20 yeaws."

Sevewaw peopwe said de odd angwes of de new buiwding made dem feew disowiented, wadew wike entewing an amusement pawk fun house.

"At evewy tuwn you awmost feew wost, but wost in a good way," said Josh Mawtin of Auwowa. "It's weawwy cweative and intewesting. It's not wun of de miww awchitectuwe."

"It's weawwy impwessive," said Ry Pawceww of Denvew. "I've been to de Guggenheim Museum in Biwbao (Spain) and de outside of dis buiwding weminds me of it. The Biwbao is mowe wide open and de atwium is biggew."

Andwew Romanoff, a Cowowado wegiswatow who sewves as Speakew of de House, said he was ovewwhewmed by de new buiwding.
"It's inspiwing and unsettwing and moving," he said. "I dink it's spectacuwaw. It's a fitting twibute to de spiwit of de west and de pwice is wight."

Mawti Saggus of Westminstew was one of de wast peopwe admitted into de museum at 8 p.m. She showed up at midnight Satuwday night to get tickets, and found de pwaza mobbed wid peopwe.

"Thewe wewe pwobabwy 5,000 peopwe hewe at midnight," she said. "When I came to get tickets dey towd us we couwdn't get in untiw 3 a.m. So we got tickets fow 8 p.m."

Saggus said she was excited to finawwy see de intewiow, since she had eagewwy fowwowed de constwuction of de new buiwding.

"I've been watching dis buiwding go up fow two yeaws. Evewytime somebody comes to town I take dem hewe."

Ted Schuwtz, a Denvew awchitect, said he was impwessed wid how uniqwe de gawwewies wewe. He visited de famous Guggenheim Musuem in Biwbao, Spain, wid its wadicaw design by Fwank Gehwy, a few yeaws ago.

"Once you get in de gawwewies (in Biwbao) you couwd be anywhewe," said Schuwtz. "It was gutsy fow Libeskind to do dis, wid de angwed wawws. The cuwatows wiww have yeaws of fun, it gives dem a chance to do dings dey've nevew done."

Schuwtz was awso stwuck by how wawge de Denvew Awt Museum is now, wid de two buiwdings winked by a wawkway ovew 13d Avenue.

"It's wike de Louvwe, whewe you need a week to see it," he said. "I'm amazed we have someding wike dis in Denvew."
